Tour This Website ... 2182 Views Author's name: Jim Author's ratings = 0 This is a pretty complex site when you decide to become a creator. There are so many things you can do with the creator tools and we hope they get even nicer with more capabilities over time and use with feedback. Pictured here is the HOME PAGE... You can Xpand the menu and look around at categories, creators, keywords, or by how many visitors. For the tour, we will look at all the pages you need to deal with to create your own project and feature it on CwhatIcanDo. Author's Assigned Keywords: How To Website HELP Logging In To CREATE! Just hit the Creator`s Login and put in your login ID and password. If you don`t have one already, hit Sign Up For Free and Become a Creator, to get your UserID and password.
A hint... If you are interested in doing commerce, you probably want a UserID that connects to your target audience. Example: The guys who show you how to install a batting net in your backyard use the UserID battingnets. You can just use names that are "for fun" I use DoctorZoidberg as a login name that allows me to fill in any blank areas on the site. I use Jim, for work on CwhatIcanDo itself. But my handle "WeRbots" is the one I use for my own robot projects. WeRbots uses this site pretty much the same way it used it`s own blog. I'm In, I'm a Creator, Now What? As soon as you've logged in, the site starts to address you directly. The result is that the site shows you who you are logged in as in the moment. REMEMBER: You do not have to log in to "look around" the website. The whole game here is to inspire others, so if you have something to "create" you can log in. If you just want to look at projects, mod 'em, or get inspired to build that thingamajig you've been thinking about, you just come and use the website. Being a creator changes everything and you have the right to show your own, original Intellectual Property, make product sales and all that... Next Click on CREATOR TOOLS or Click to Access Creator Tools... Welcome To the Creator's Tools Here we are arriving at the creator's tools. The action takes place in the Select A Project drop down box. If you have no projects yet, you will create your first one by clicking on Add NEW Project. Choose a Project to Edit or Refine Or, create your new project. The drop-down allows you to select the existing project you wish to edit. Make your selection and start creating or editing you project... Editing the Title and Text Edit the title and or text in the edit box. In this illustration, the edit box is a simple form, that may not look the same once we are out of Alpha Testing, but the idea will always be the same. This is where your "steps" are detailed. To attach media, Add to the media URL. For now, this is PART of the embed image download for either google video, Picasaweb, or You Tube. Adding Keywords And What That Does Keywords are selected by you, the creator, to help people (and search engines) find your project. Let's say you are doing a project that is a robot light blinker - crazy, but possible... You would create keywords "robot" and "light" There are two divisions for your project to be displayed, use this to your advantage. KEYWORDS: are selected by the project creator as shown here. SITE WIDE CATEGORIES: Show in the associated "sections" and are controlled by your project's title... Titles using the word Bot, Robot, Robotics, are analyzed and listed under those Site Categories listed at the top of the page just under the site heading (login box and all that). Choose your projects title so it has the appropriate keyword so it will show when you hit that Site Categories Listing. Here's how the current listing shows your projects when you go from the main page to the Site Categories. Home Projects • INSIDE ME • Lighting Projects • Make A How To • MultiMedia • Music • Robots Home Projects • searches for titles with "home" in the title INSIDE ME • searches for titles with "self" in the title Lighting Projects • searches for titles with "light" in the title Make A How To • searches for titles with "how" in the title MultiMedia • searches for titles with "media" in the title Music • searches for titles with "music" in the title Robots • searches for titles with "bot" in the title So, Yes, if you have a title like Robot with Lights, you will show up in either the Robots Category and in the Lighting Projects Category. Parts List Building One of the funnest things about this site is the Right Side navigation which navigates project by the Parts it Takes to Build 'em. This is controlled by the parts list. This is important to creators because it is where you link to either your own kit of parts, or to the sites that sell the parts you use. We make every effort to become a distributor with all companies listed, but reserve the right to "steer" your entry to distributors for whom we already have a listing. This way you, as the creator get to share the revenue produced by sales of your project with CwhatIcanDo. Just FYI, CwhatIcanDo also gets a "google click" equivalent *Often a couple of bucks (depends on the keyword). All this money goes to keep CwhatIcanDo running. Commissions on the other hand are collected by CwhatIcanDo, then distributed quarterly. This is a split with CwhatIcanDo and hopefully eventually will allow us to create a Creator's fund, which is designed to create cash awards, etc. for outstanding creators, funding projects to supply robotics, or airplanes or audio projects, whatever, to what we call the Creator's fund. The parts list is important then, to you as a creator, whether you sell your own "kits" on e-bay or other site you own or control. We want you to make a lot of sales, that's what keeps us running! Adding Parts to the Parts List This is just a further illustration of the parts list tool. This is likely to change a bit as we go out of Alpha and into the public Beta phase of the site Admiring Your Work This is what your project would look like in this view, you see the Parts List you created before, now it is showing the parts you entered along with the project listing on the site. Site Wide Categories View This is what the page looks like when you've clicked on the Site Category: Robots.. Note the CategoryView variable in the address box in the browser. See it's value: "bot" Titles containing the word or partial match with BOT are listed at the highest level so site visitors can scan the page for interesting projects. The About Us Page This is a current image of the About Us page. It attempts to describe what CwhatIcanDo is, and what it is trying to do. |
